Manchester City Centre moves are different from suburban removals. Almost every property is an apartment in a managed building, which means lift protection, loading bay bookings, building management sign-off, and often a parking suspension from the council. SmartyMoves handles all four as part of the booking, so the move does not hit delays on the day. We cover Northern Quarter, Ancoats, Deansgate, Castlefield, Piccadilly, Spinningfields, and the Green Quarter. Run by Julian and operated by Britania Logistic LTD (Company No. 12660219) since 2020. 116 five-star Google reviews.
What's involved in a city centre removal
- Lift protection and coordination Most city centre buildings require the lift to be padded before the move and signed off after. We coordinate with building management and provide the padding.
- Loading bay bookings Buildings on Deansgate, Whitworth Street, Oxford Road, and around Piccadilly have designated loading bays that must be booked in advance. We arrange the booking as part of the quote.
- Parking suspensions Where a loading bay is not available, we apply to Manchester City Council for a parking suspension on the street. The permit cost is included in the quote.
- Narrow corridor and lobby handling City centre apartment lobbies, corridors, and stairwells are often tighter than suburban houses. Furniture is wrapped and, where necessary, dismantled to fit through.
- Lift weight limits and goods lift use For heavier items, we use the building's goods lift where one is available. If the goods lift is out of service or weight-limited, we carry items down the stairs.
- Goods in Transit and Public Liability cover Insurance on every move at no additional cost. See our insurance details.
- No upfront payment You pay on completion, once everything is in the new property. No deposits, no card details in advance.

Frequently asked questions about city centre removals
How do you handle removals from Manchester City Centre apartments?
Most city centre apartment buildings require lift protection, a loading bay booking, and building management sign-off before the move. We coordinate all three in advance — lift padding, loading bay reservation, and building access — so the move does not hit delays on the day.
Can you get a parking suspension or loading bay permit in the city centre?
Yes. Manchester City Council requires permits for most loading bays and parking suspensions in the city centre, and they must be applied for in advance. We handle the application as part of the booking when the property requires it.
How much does a removal in Manchester City Centre cost?
A 1-bedroom city centre apartment move typically costs £300–£600 without packing or £500–£900 with packing. A 2-bedroom apartment costs £500–£1,000 or £800–£1,500 with packing. A 3-bedroom apartment costs £800–£1,500 or £1,200–£2,200 with packing. See our full pricing guide.
Do you cover Northern Quarter, Ancoats and Deansgate?
Yes. We cover the entire Manchester City Centre area — including Northern Quarter, Ancoats, Deansgate, Castlefield, Piccadilly, Spinningfields, and the Green Quarter. Each area has slightly different access requirements, which we assess at quote stage.
Do you work Saturdays for city centre moves?
Yes. Saturday moves are available for city centre apartments. Saturdays book up early — 4–6 weeks ahead is recommended, especially for buildings with tight loading bay slots. Call 07482 053493 to check availability.
