Pricing and quotes

How much does a house removal cost in Manchester?

House removals in Manchester typically cost £300–£600 for a 1-bedroom move without packing, £500–£1,000 for a 2-bedroom move, £800–£1,500 for a 3-bedroom move, and £1,200–£2,500 for a 4-bedroom move. Adding full packing increases these ranges by roughly £200–£1,000 depending on property size.

Prices depend on volume, access, distance, and any special items. See the full pricing guide →

Do you charge a deposit?

No. SmartyMoves does not take a deposit on any removal, packing, piano, storage or end of tenancy cleaning booking. You pay on completion, once everything is in the new property and reassembled. No card details are taken in advance.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. The written quote is the price you pay. There are no surcharges added on the day for travel, VAT, fuel, or crew size anywhere in Manchester, Trafford, Salford, Stockport or the Cheshire commuter belt. If a move requires something not covered in the original quote, we will discuss it with you before proceeding — not add it to the bill after the fact.

Do you charge extra for weekends?

Saturday moves are priced the same as weekday moves. There is no weekend surcharge. Saturdays book up earlier than weekdays because of demand, but the price is the same.

Do you charge extra for travel to Cheshire (Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Knutsford)?

No. Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Knutsford are within our standard service area. There is no travel surcharge to any of them. The quote you receive is the price you pay, with no surcharges added on the day.

Booking and availability

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking 2–4 weeks in advance for local Manchester moves. For end-of-month and Saturday dates, book 4–6 weeks ahead. Same-week and short-notice moves can sometimes be accommodated — call 07482 053493 to check availability.

Do you work Saturdays?

Yes. Saturday moves are available alongside weekday moves. Saturdays book up earlier than weekdays, so we recommend booking 4–6 weeks ahead if your move must fall on a Saturday. SmartyMoves does not operate on Sundays.

Can you do a same-day or short-notice move?

Sometimes. Short-notice moves depend entirely on crew and van availability. Several of our reviews mention same-day or next-day moves we have completed. Call Julian directly on 07482 053493 — if we can do it, we will; if we cannot, we will tell you straight away rather than stringing you along.

Do you have a minimum job size?

No. We take moves of any size, from a studio flat to a 5+ bedroom house. For very small jobs (single items, a few boxes) the minimum call-out is a 2-hour slot. For full removals there is no minimum — the quote reflects the actual size of the move.

Services and what's included

Do you dismantle and reassemble furniture?

Yes. Dismantling and reassembly of beds, wardrobes, and standard furniture is included at no extra charge on every SmartyMoves removal. Our crew disassembles, protects the components, transports them, and reassembles them in your new property.

Do you offer packing services?

Yes. We offer full packing, partial packing (kitchen only or fragile items only), and unpacking. All materials are supplied — boxes, tape, bubble wrap, wardrobe cartons, and mattress covers. Packing is priced separately from the removal and confirmed in the written quote. See packing services →

Can you move a piano?

Yes. SmartyMoves moves upright pianos, baby grands, and full grand pianos. Grand pianos require additional handling — the lid and legs are removed, the piano is wrapped and strapped to a piano board or dolly, and it is moved on its side. Pianos are handled by trained crews with specialist equipment and are covered by Goods in Transit insurance. See piano removals →

Can you store my belongings between moves?

Yes. We offer secure short and long-term storage in Manchester. Storage is commonly booked when a property purchase is delayed, when a rental tenancy ends before the new one begins, or when a move is happening in stages. Storage is priced monthly based on volume, with access by appointment. See storage →

Do you offer end of tenancy cleaning?

Yes. SmartyMoves offers end of tenancy cleaning across Manchester, including a deposit-back standard clean and a 7-day re-clean guarantee if the landlord flags any item after inspection. Manchester market averages range from £150 to £350+ depending on property size and condition. See end of tenancy cleaning →

Insurance and protection

Are you insured?

Yes. SmartyMoves provides Goods in Transit cover and Public Liability insurance on every move. Both are included in the quoted price — there is no separate charge for insurance. See full insurance details →

What if something gets damaged during my move?

If damage occurs, tell us immediately — before the crew leaves if possible. Take photos of the damaged item, keep the item, and we will handle the claim with our insurer on your behalf. Full details of the claims process are on our insurance page.

Practicalities on the day

How long does a house move take?

A 1-bedroom flat takes 2–4 hours. A 2-bedroom flat or house takes 4–6 hours. A 3-bedroom house takes 6–8 hours (usually a full day). A 4-bedroom house takes a full day, sometimes two. Long-distance moves to London, Edinburgh, or further may require overnight stays. We confirm the expected timing in the written quote.

What if it rains on moving day?

Rain does not stop a move. Our crew uses protective covers, wraps furniture in shrink wrap, and works quickly to minimise exposure. Furniture and boxes are loaded and unloaded under cover where possible. If the forecast is heavy rain, we may recommend additional wrapping for high-value items — discussed when you request the quote.

Will the crew take our boxes away after the move?

If you book our unpacking service, yes — we remove the empty boxes and packing materials at the end. If you do not book unpacking, the empty boxes are yours to keep or dispose of. We can also arrange for cardboard recycling on request.
